Hickman is a rural unincorporated community located in Stanislaus County, California, United States. It is situated along State Route 99 and is about 8 miles southeast of the city of Turlock and 16 miles northwest of the city of Merced. The community was established in the early 1900s as a stop along the Southern Pacific Railroad and was named after local farmer James Hickman. Hickman has a population of approximately 3,000 people and is known for its agricultural activities including dairy farming, almond orchards, and fruit and vegetable farms. The area is also home to a few small businesses, including a grocery store, gas station, and a few restaurants.
